Ken Bryski's Guide to Starting an Online Business

My Small Home Business Journey

How Searching Small Home Business Ideas Took Me From Hook and Line to Internet Marketing

Ken Bryski from Nanaimo BC Canada

A switch from salmon fishing to Internet Marketing may seem like a pretty far cast for most people, but for me its just a matter of changing hooks. After 40 years of fishing the ocean for a living in British Columbia, Canada, I'm going to be fishing the world wide web. Yep, the big WWW. This website is my new hook and line.

Now wait a minute! Don't be shaking your head at me...

This site is about what I've learned starting a small home business and using the Internet for marketing. But I still can't help thinking like a fisherman.

When I was fishing for salmon here in BC, I would troll as many as 200 hooks behind my boat when we were catching sockeye salmon. If I had only used one hook, I'd be pretty busy, but I wouldn't catch nearly as many fish as when I used 200 hooks. And if I had the right lure when the fish wanted it, well look out.

We wouldn't be able to keep up....

The Internet is like the ocean, it's vast and you could never see it all, no matter how long you wandered.

A spring salmon my dad caught in Departue Bay in 1955 from his rowboat. It look's bigger than me.
This little fish was caught by my dad in 1955 in front of my first home in Departure Bay on Vancouver Island near Nanaimo.

From fishing, I learned you can travel wherever you want; travel the whole ocean trolling a hook, but if it's the wrong one or it isn't sharp.

Well, you know what? You won't catch anything at all...

Hey, you can have the sharpest hook in the world on the hottest lure but if you don't put it in the water where the fish swim, you still won't catch anything.

People use the Internet almost daily when searching for things. It could be for anything at all. Mostly they're looking for information on something that's important to them.

A webpage is to a web surfer; as a hook is to a fish. If the fish likes what it sees, it bites.

An Internet marketer finds out what people are searching for and gives it to them through a website. Similar to what I did when trying to catch fish for a living. The trick is using the right hook and putting it it the right place at the right time to make the fish bite.

For the past ten years I've been learning about Internet Marketing because I found it so much like fishing. Hopefully, some of the pages on this site will inspire you to start your own home business using the Internet marketing techniques and ideas I discuss.
